The aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) left 600 individuals dead. Many of the casualties were the male heads-of-households who stayed behind to safety the property of the family. The children affected by the typhoon were traumatize as they witnessed their homes as well as their families and friend washed away. 

Two of these children (Hazel and Jane), survived the calamity by grabbing unto the branches of trees in their path as they were carried by the flood. 

These children were witnessed by Edison Paldas while they were cleaning their own school classrooms.

When asked why they were cleaning the classrooms they said that, they wanted to start studying again and wanted to help by cleaning the classrooms. 

We've also ask them their reason if why they have to donate boots and raincoats instead of other necessities, so according to Edison Paldas, raincoat signifies safety from the children in Palo Leyte because they were traumatize from the rain, they will feel secure while wearing this given donations.

Palo, Leyte and the Typhoon Haiyan

Thursday, November 7, 2014 at around 5 am in the morning when the typhoon Yolanda traverse the part of Visayas region where the Tacloban City was the most affected area. Leyte as one of the focused area of the Salubong Movement with its other partnership programs gives the different barangays their basic necessities and other help from the volunteers.

They did different project that supports 6 costals from Leyte including its 33 barangays. This includes San Fernando, Cogon, San Joaquin, Baras, Salvacion and Candahug.

The volunteers continues to give their support by transporting goods and other basic necessities for Palo, Leyte survivors.

This blog also supports one of the projects of Salubong Movement which gives new boots and raincoats from every children from different schools and barangays. You too, can help the children by giving donations and continue reading and sharing this blog. :)
